What is the tarantula's defense?

Tarantulas have two main defences. The have a venomous bite with powerful fangs which - although painful, is rarely fatal to humans. They also have irritating hairs on their abdomens - which they can flick towards an attacker. The hairs are extremely fine, and are barbed - making them stick into an attackers skin. They cause irritation and - if aimed at the eyes, can cause temporary (and occasionally permanent) blindness.
