Why did the maroons run away?

Maroons were enslaved Africans who escaped from plantations in the Americas, primarily in the Caribbean and Brazil. They fled to seek freedom from brutal conditions, oppressive labor, and the inhumane treatment they faced under slavery. Additionally, the desire to preserve their cultural identity and establish autonomous communities motivated many Maroons to run away and form resistance against colonial powers.
