How does Xanax effect early pregnancy?

This drug is classified as pregnancy Category C by the FDA and has been known to cause birth defects.

Anything you ingest goes right to your unborn baby. Xanax has been proven to cause: developmental abnormalities, skeletal anomalies, affects the fetal brain development, reduced motivation later in life, increased aggression in adulthood if the fetus is male, and withdrawal.

In closer research I've found that if you truly need your Xanax and are on extremely low dosages then you should be just fine. However, there are no studies done on what long-term effects this drug has on your baby. This is a question you should be asking your doctor. If you suffer from panic attacks and need this drug (a benzodiazepine by the way) then you MUST discuss this with your doctor. Along with pregnancy comes vast hormone changes and you may be lucky enough not to suffer from whatever you are suffering from to need Xanax.
