William E. Stanley (born December 28, 1844 in Knox County, Ohio; died October 13, 1910 in Wichita, Kansas) succeeded John W. Leedy as the fifteenth Governor of Kansas, serving between January 9, 1899 and January 12, 1903. Following the end of Stanley's term as Governor, Willis J. Bailey (born October 12, 1854 in Carroll County, Illinois; died May 19, 1932 in Mission Hills, Kansas) became the sixteenth Governor of Kansas, serving between January 12, 1903 and January 9, 1905.
