Who is the head of state of Malta?

The head of state of Malta is the President of Malta,currently George Abela. He was appointed as president for a 5-year term on 2009 April 4 by the House of Representatives of Malta, after being nominated by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.

Malta is a Parliamentary Republic, and therefore also has a Prime Minister who is head of government. The Prime Minister is currently Lawrence Gonzi.
