"Scoop" Jackson, the United States Senator from Washington, Frank Church, the United States Senator from Idaho, Robert Byrd, the United States Senator from West Virginia, Fred R. Harris, the former United States Senator from Oklahoma, Birch Bayh, the United States Senator from Indiana, Lloyd Bentsen, the United States Senator from Texas, and George Wallace, the Governor of Alabama

The Republicans chose Gerald Ford (who had ascended to the Presidency after the resignation of Richard Nixon.) and Bob Dole. Ford beat Ronald Reagan in the primaries.

Carter won and was plagued by the Cartel oil embargo and the attack on the United States Embassy in Tehran, Iran. If Ford had won it would probably be Ford who would have been blessed with these events.
