Traditionally the man's name would come first.
If the woman has taken her husband's last name there are two ways to address the couple:
- Mr. & Mrs. John Doe
- Mr. John Doe and Jane Doe.
If one is professional then it could be:
- Dr. & Mrs. John Doe
- Mr. John & Dr. Jane Doe
If the woman has combined his name with hers the couple would be addressed as:
- Mr. John Doe & Mrs. Jane Smith-Doe.
If the woman has kept her own name:
- Mr. John Doe & Mrs. Jane Smith.
If they are being introduced in a situation where the husband is attending as her partner, her name may be given first:
- Mrs. Jane Smith & her husband Mr. John Doe.
