yes, you can mention anything that is in the public domain. They are public people and anything that they do publicly is 'griss for the mill'. HOWEVER if you get too far into their private lives, mention things that should be considered private then you are in trouble.

Carol Brunette was accused by the Nation Inquirer of being drunk at a restaurant. Carol's mother was an alcoholic and she took the reference hard. She sued and won.

I can talk about Carol's mom because the information is in the public domain. How Carol behaves in public is going to have to be accurate or there are heavy consequences.
