George Howard (born November 21, 1789 in Annapolis, Maryland; died August 2, 1846 in Woodstock, Maryland) succeeded Daniel Martin as the twenty-second Governor of Maryland, serving between July 11, 1831 and January 17, 1833. Following the end of Howard's term as Governor, James Thomas (born March 11, 1785 in St. Mary's County, Maryland; died December 25, 1845 in St. Mary's County, Maryland) became the twenty-third Governor of Maryland, serving between January 17, 1833 and January 14, 1836.
