There was a promise of lots of fertile land and plenitful food. The colony was known for its natural ports and harbors, rivers and lakes, and an ocean Excellent for fishing an whaling. Forests, mountains, silver, medals, and even gold was found within the region.

Many people also wanted to escape poverty. Or wanted religious freedom(which the colony had). And depending on the time period, many came to escape war that was going on in their country.
