If a patient is seizing, ensure their safety by moving any nearby objects that could cause injury and placing them on a flat surface. Do not restrain their movements or put anything in their mouth. Time the seizure; if it lasts longer than five minutes or if multiple seizures occur without recovery in between, seek emergency medical assistance immediately. After the seizure, turn the patient onto their side to help keep the airway clear and monitor their responsiveness.
