How did the common market begin?

The common market began with the establishment of the European Economic Community (EEC) through the Treaty of Rome in 1957, which aimed to promote economic integration among its member states. Initially consisting of six countries—Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and West Germany—the EEC sought to create a single market by removing tariffs and allowing the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labor.
