Was Mocha Dick real

A white whale that allegedly eluded numerous whalers off the coast of Chile in the early 1800s, Mocha Dick was named for the Pacific island of Mocha. An 1839 report concerning his wrecking of ships was apparently the inspiration for Herman Melville's novel Moby Dick (1851).
