What guided the 3 wise men to infant Jesus?

The Bible say Mary, Joseph, and Jesus were in a house, not a stable. When they discovered the new Star, they told Herod, and when they searched for him, the thought that he would be somewhere big like Jerusalem, not somewhere like Bethlehem. So scholars say approx. 2 years later, right before they moved to Egypt, in a house.
