What is the purpose of the bone in the middle ear?

The auditory ossicles are located in the middle ear. Their function is to transmit and amplify the sound vibrations from the tympanic membrane (eardrum) to the oval window.

· tympanic side = malleus or hammer

· middle = incus or anvil

· oval window side = stapes or stirrup
