Are black widow spiders always in dark places?

If undisturbed and not threatened, black widow Spiders will stay in crevices, woodpiles, trash, outbuildings, and other dark, sheltered outdoor locations. During cold weather they may spin their webs in basements, garages, and other dark areas inside buildings.
