How do I know if a Vauxhall Zafira timing belt needs changing?

The intervals for the belt (best do the rollers at the same time) is every 40,000 miles. If it snaps then you're looking at a huge repair bill for engine damage, so if you're not sure when it was last replaced then get it done asap.
