To properly trim birch trees for health and aesthetics, prune them in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove dead or diseased branches, as well as any crossing or rubbing branches. Make clean cuts at a slight angle just above a bud or branch collar. Avoid cutting into the trunk or leaving stubs. Additionally, thin out the canopy to improve air circulation and light penetration.
