In the US (and Canada and others??) the maximum current rating of a standard plug with parallel blades is 15 amperes. If it has the neutral (wide) blade rotated 90 degrees, the rating is 20 amperes. If it is has hot (narrow) blade rotated instead, the rating is 30 amperes.
In Europe, using 230VAC configuration, there are several connectors. The main European connector uses two round pins for live and neutral and generally are rated at 16 amps although variations between countries also result in current ratings as low as 10 amps.
In the UK, using three square pins, the maximum current is 13 amps. Unusually, UK plugs are fitted with a fuse which can be any of 3, 5, 10 or 13 amp rated.
