What is unique about bower birds?

Bowerbirds, primarily frugivorous Songbirds unique to Australia and New Guinea, have a number of unique features.

The most significant, and the one that gives them their name, is the bower built by males of all species except the genus Ailuroedus to attract females. These bowers are of two types, called "maypole" and "avenue" bowers and often involve complex ornamentation to attract females. The females mate in the bowers and then raise the one or two young alone.

Bowerbirds are also unique in being the longest-lived of all songbirds. It is estimated that on average a Satin Bowerbird male will live for about ten years, and longevity records of twenty-six years for the Satin Bowerbird and twenty-four for the Regent Bowerbird are records for passerines with usable banding data.
