Why is afforestation important?

Afforestation is important because it tries to balance the deforestation that has already taken place around the world. Trees are planted where the land is barren so that forests are created. Growing vegetation like forests is the only thing we have that will remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, so forests reduce the speed of global warming.
