Why do most Americans dislike French people?

It is very probably not correct to assume that "most" Americans do not like the French. But anti-French feelings were created and much encouraged by the government of George W. Bush when the French refused to join in the invasion of Iraq on the US assumption of Iraq's possession of massive amounts of "weapons of mass destruction."

Since it was later shown that the "proof'' had been doctored by the Bush government and when the invasion and occupation quickly turned into a costly fiasco, reviving Al-Qaeda and giving birth to the Islamic State, France was shown to be right in not seeing good reason to invade with the USA. But being right rarely makes you popular amongst the people who have been proven wrong.
