Try feeding her as much as she wants, as she will have more little mouths to feed inside her! A good quality puppy food with good meat sources and high meat content (Chicken, Turkey, Beef etc as the first or first couple of ingredients) is best during both pregnancy and lactation (feeding pups). It is advised to feed her as much as she needs.
Your dog may need extra calcium while lactating. Please ask a vet about this first, however, as this can differ with each breed. If needed, you can add a little bit of fat-free cottage cheese or other foods high in calcium to her food every day (about 2/3 of a cup per 1 1/2 to 2 cups of food). Your vet may also suggest ground-up calcium, DO NOT attempt this yourself, wait until he gives you a specific amount.
Give her nice, clean, FILTERED water (change every day).
Instead of feeding your dog not-so-good-for-her-or-the-upcoming-pups manufactured treats, keep her healthy by giving her all natural treats. Give her raw, cut up meat and possibly a few veggies. Most dogs love: carrots, Apples broccoli, mangoes, honey dew melon and more. Oily fish or an egg given once a week are also very healthy treats that most dogs love.
WARNING: Research all human foods before giving them to your dogs. Some you may think would be harmless, like grapes. But grapes and raisins are poisonous to dogs!
