A dependable child is one who is trusted to do things, such as finish homework or keep his/her room clean. Example: "Because Susan is a dependable child I can count on her to come straight home after school."
This is different from the phrase "dependent child," which means one who needs support from parents. For example, in the U.S. a taxpayer can get a deduction for each dependent child living at home.
