What do people do that harm owls?

Lots of things, like cutting down trees. And I have heard that some people in Japan are making owls fight and are scaring them to death for the amusement of people. I don't think people are actually eating them or something like that. Owls are the easiest target for hunters with their loud hooting and big body.
