What effect did the Social Democratic Party have?

Although the Social Democratic Party could not influence laws, because of the structure of the legislature, the party gained public support by using political office to spread its views. By 1877, the SDP had elected 12 members to the Reichstag. The party was able to use the Reichstag as a forum for its grievances.
