What is a water gate valve?

A water valve is similar to a switch. With a valve you can open and close a waterflow.

A water valve is a mechanism by which you can control water availability or flow. Opening and closing of the valve is most often by lever or wheel control, operating a gate, ball, or butterfly to stop/release water flow.

Depending on its location in the Plumbing, the valve may have different purposes and designs. Different varieties offer varying degrees of control, durability, and ease of use:

# A standard spigot is a gate valve which is designed for variable water pressure and flow, such as for a sink or shower. Those in public areas generally have more aesthetically pleasing appearance. # An emergency shut-off valve, often either a butterfly or ball valve, is designed to close off the flow of water quickly in the event of a plumbing emergency such as a broken pipe or overflowing toilet. In a butterfly valve a flat disc is turned within the pipe by an external knob/lever. A ball valve is commonly illustrated in plumbing pipes games (see link, below.)

# A pressure-reducing valve can be used either at the entrance to a building from the public water supply or within the building's plumbing system, for example to reduce the water knocking common in hot water heating systems. # Check valvesallow unidirectional flow, and may stop the flow of water after a certain volume has passed, such as from tank to toilet, in which example the valve is controlled by a float which gauges volume in the tank; # Mixing valves, for example to control the temperature of water blended from hot and cold water pipes. # Solenoid valves, which care used in heating systems and sprinklers. The valve mechanism employs gaskets, springs, and even electricity.
