Why is Santa Claus associated with December 25?

December 25th is traditionally thought of as the birthday of the Christ Child. Santa Claus, whose original name is Saint Nicholas, is a Christian who celebrates Christmas by distributing gifts to children, but most of his journey occurs on December 24th. Santa is finishing up his long trip and starting his way home by sunrise on Christmas Day!
