Why is boulder named boulder?

Boulder, Colorado, got its name from the large boulders found in the area, particularly those along the creek that runs through the town. When settlers arrived in the mid-1800s, they referred to the area as "Boulder," reflecting the prominent geological features that characterized the landscape. The name was officially adopted when the town was founded in 1859.
