When Hephaestus trapped Hera how did it trap her?

Hephaestus was in charge of making the other thrones for the other gods. When Hera sat in hers, invisible chairs wrapped around her, and the chair shot out into the air. Hephaestus said that he would not release her unless he got Aphrodite as his wife, which he did.
