St. Dymphna became a saint due to her unwavering faith and her martyrdom. She was the daughter of a pagan king in Ireland and, after her father's inappropriate advances following her mother's death, she fled to preserve her virtue. When he pursued her, she refused to return and was ultimately killed by him. Her story of courage and devotion led to her veneration as the patron saint of those suffering from mental illness.
