How was armor made during the renaissance?

Medieval plate armor breastplates were worn by royalty, military commanders and high ranking knights. They were made by cutting plates of iron into an appropriate shape. These were then heated and hammered into the breastplate shape. It would be specifically made to the size of the customer who would require several fittings during the construction process.
