What does till then stay put means?

When someone says that to you "...till then stay put" means until whatever happens or is going to happen you are to stay right where you are. For instance, if you want to go out before one of your parents get home your told to stay put until then.

Now if it is a boyfriend/girlfriend saying this - this can be someone telling you what to do and being too controlling.
