Quarter carat diamond in platnium how much is it worth?

I went in with my engagement ring yesterday which is a quarter carat in platinum to see how much it was worth. The woman said a quarter carat diamond is worth at the LEAST $489 in their store. They're also one of the cheaper stores in this area, so I'd say at least $500 depending on the quality of the diamond.
