What is overnight fast?

An overnight fast is no food or water after midnight... until the test the next morning. Ask your doctor if you should take any usual morning medications; if so, use just a small amount of water. You'll be hungry and thirsty, but you can't eat or drink or you can change test results, or you could become ill if your test requires you to swallow preparations (such as Barium for upper GI X-rays).
