Depending on the regularity of the hours, the employer might just manually input a clock-out time. For instance, if an employee works 9-5 every day, the employer can just change the clock-out time to 5 and double-check with the employee to make sure it's correct.

Employee clock in software often eliminates this problem; some types will include an option for a reminder at the end of the day to clock out.
