Was the general emphasis of the renaissance movement religious?

There was one religion and it was Catholic, but by 1700 Neoplatonic thought, the enlightenment, and Martian Luther had it's effects on the Catholic Church and they lost much of their power. Most Renaissance art is religious in nature and the largest cathedrals were built.
