The Torre de Oro, or Tower of Gold, in Seville was historically used as a watchtower and a defense structure. It housed a collection of treasure and goods, particularly gold and silver brought back from the Americas during Spain's colonial period. Additionally, it served as a customs post for ships entering the Guadalquivir River, where merchants paid taxes on their cargo. Today, it is a museum that showcases the maritime history of Seville.
