there could be so many reasons as to why you're throat is sore. could have a virus, infection etc. but just below you're jawbone is 2 lymphatic nodes either side that swell up when you are ill. these can cause sore throats, discomfort and pain when swollen. swollen nodes are your body's natural defences - lymphatic system. they filter out any viruses, bacteria etc. using white blood cells such as T helper cells (they have a lot more cells than that, for more info google lymphatic system). a node is basically a filtration system which lets the lymphatic fluid into the node and only clean fluid exit's. any viruses or bacteria is destroyed within the node. Swollen nodes can also be an early sign of cancer. Most common cause of nodes under you're jawbone is through tonsillitis, and if you contract tonsillitis too often then they can be removed.
