Yes, According to most people who have played the Series the game was killed when 3 game out.

3 Took away from what the series was all about, which was realism and choice to fight how you want.

Empire Earth 3 had promise when it brought in the idea of a world campaign for domination of all the power, but sadly the fact they turned it into an unrealistic game with cartoon sized units, and made it a comedy rather than a series battle, that destroyed it.
