Is the raccoon a canine

It's a canid, so it's part of the dog family.

It's part of the same family with wolves, foxes, coyotes, jackals, and domestic dogs.

Also, it's called "raccoon dog" because of it's resemblance to the raccoon, which it's not even related to.

But, in ancient times of Japan, they confused this animal with the badger.
