Farmer hoggett has only ducks and pigs on his farm He cant remember how many of each he has but he really doesn't need to remember He does know that he was 22 animals A total of 56 legs..?

Let x = ducks and y = pigs

x (ducks) + y (pigs) = 22 (total animals)

2x (legs of ducks) + 4y (legs of pigs) = 56 (total legs)

Multiply the first part (the total animals) by two

2x + 2y = 44

then subtract the two problems

2y = 12 then y = 6

go back to the original x + 6 = 22 then x = 16

16 ducks (32 legs) + 6 pigs (24 legs) = 22 animals (56 legs)
