Are vision and image synonyms

Vision and image can be synonyms, depending on how they are used.

For example, they are synonyms in:

She had a vision of the Virgin

She saw an image of the Virgin

But they are not always synonyms. For example, image cannot be a synonym for vision is:

A stone struck my eye and I lost my vision.
