How do you turn a regular fence into an electric fence?

The fence must be made of a conducting material, such as steel.

The fence must be isolated from the ground, using insulators. It must not touch the ground or the posts suspending it, except through insulators made of non-conducting material, such as pottery, glass or plastic.

A high voltage, low current, generator can then be connected to it. One pole into the ground, using a metal rod pushed into the ground, and the other onto the fence.

Most generators are driven by a battery, through an oscillator and then a transformer, which increases the voltage.

It is better to use a generator properly manufactured, for the purpose of providing a small shock, without risk of death or fire.
