Is there a French equivalent of the OED?

The only French dictionary comprehensive enough to compare to the OED would be the 'Dictionnaire de l'Académie française' a work which is yet unfinished. Most French are happy to use either the Larousse or the Robert as their everyday dictionary. The Grevisse is the reference for French grammar, and the Bescherelle for conjugations.
