Procrustes is a figure from Greek mythology known for his cruel practice of forcing travelers to fit into his bed by either stretching them or amputating their limbs. The term "Procrustean" has since come to describe a rigid or arbitrary standard that disregards individual differences. In modern contexts, it often refers to overly simplistic solutions that ignore the complexities of a situation.
