When was the aushwitzs created?

Auschwitz, the infamous Nazi concentration and extermination camp, was established in 1940. Initially set up as a detention center for political prisoners, it later expanded to include Auschwitz II-Birkenau, which became the site of mass extermination. The camp operated until its liberation by Soviet forces on January 27, 1945.
