In animal farm how did boxer lend extra help with the windmill?

Boxer the would strain himself to stop a boulder from rolling down the hill. He also woke up three-quarters of an hour earlier in the nornings instead of 1/2 hour. He would go to the quarry to drag stone to the windmill by himself.
