Why do the mafias kill?

The Mafia is a criminal organization, and there are many types of crimes which can involve killing people, such as robbery, extortion, loan sharking, etc. In general, people are more likely to cooperate with the Mafia because they fear that if they do not cooperate, they will be killed. And by killing people, the Mafia proves that this fear is well founded.
