All snakes shed their skin. Sidenote: hippos live in Africa, and there are no boa species in africa big enough to eat a hippo. Even crocodiles won't dare go for a hippo. Hippos have been seen simply biting a crocodile in half. There are no snakes on earth (I don't even think a retic could) that could eat a hippo.
